People talk about big cities like they’re cultural meccas, and although this might be true, they come with their problems. Stand still traffic, impossible parking, long lines at the grocery store, and the list goes on. Little Rock, Arkansas, on the other hand, has all the amenities a big city has to offer but is small enough to harbor a unique, community feel.
Music lovers can enjoy Beethoven with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra while theatre buffs can enjoy Shakespeare at The Arkansas Repertory Theatre. Outdoor enthusiasts can do everything including biking, hiking, running, and fishing along the River Trail while catching views of the Arkansas River from one of the many pedestrian bridges.
In Little Rock, each neighborhood has something special to offer. You can catch a craft-festival in Hillcrest or visit SOMA and enjoy a vintage market at the Bernice Garden Pavilion. Argenta is often host to a baseball game or beer festival at Dickey-Stephens park while the River Market boasts of some of the area’s best stages for local musicians. Also, there’s always premier shopping out west at the Promenade at Chenal.
If you’ve got an appetite – don’t worry – you’re in the right place. The city has received national attention from the likes of Forbes as a secret foodie city. The number of locally owned restaurantsthat specialize in everything from fine dining to good, down-home staples guarantees you’ll find something you love. Plus, the local farmer’s market circuit offers residents a chance to be their own foodie or chef.
The best thing is, living here comes with an incredibly affordable cost of living. Ranked as the number one city to live in by Kiplinger in 2013, the housing market is thriving and only getting better, compared to the still-bruised national average.
A number of strong venues keep the city going, from the first rate hospitals in town as well as the nationally acclaimed University of Arkansas for the Medical Sciences (UAMS), to the vibrant tourism brought in by the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. Nationwide companies call Little Rock home including Dillard’s, Windstream Communications, and Acxiom.
The best thing about all of this – it only scratches the surface on this bustling big-little city. What are you waiting for? Find out what your reason is for loving Little Rock by moving in!Posted by Brock Whisenhunt on
