Over the past two decades Little Rock's downtown has undergone a dramatic transformation and continues to change in exciting ways. The River Market District is a revitalized mixed-use neighborhood bordering the Arkansas River. In recent years Downtown and the River Market District have seen an influx of full time residents drawn by convenient access to the many dazzling area attractions. In 2003 the first high rise condominiums emerged and they now run the gamut from luxury to eco-friendly. You can find just about every kind of downtown residence, from open lofts, to spacious condos and sleek penthouses. Condo prices in Downtown range from $200,000 to over $1 million.
Located near the foot of Cantrell Hill, and just a quick drive from downtown Little Rock, is Riverdale. Here you’ll find a diverse mix of restaurants, shops, apartments, businesses and single-family homes. Luxury townhouses, patio homes and high-rise condominiums overlook the scenic Arkansas River. Riverdale homes and condos range from $100,000 to $1 million.
The Quapaw Quarter is the oldest and most historic business and residential neighborhood in Little Rock. The name honors the Quapaw Indians who once lived in the area. As many as 15 separate National Historic Register Districts make up the Quapaw Quarter, including more than 200 homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood features many stately, artfully restored homes of varying sizes from the Antebellum and Victorian eras, the earliest dating to the 1840s. Other styles, including Craftsman, American Foursquare and Colonial Revival, can be found. Many significant Arkansas landmark Quapaw Quarter homes can be surprisingly affordable, ranging in price from $80,000 to $600,000.
Downtown and The River Market District is home to restaurants, clubs, retail outlets, concert halls and art galleries. Here's where you will find the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park, The Old State House, the Central Arkansas Main Library, and the newly renovated Museum of Discovery and Robinson Auditorium.
Many significant Arkansas landmarks are located in the Quapaw Quarter, including the Governor's Mansion, The Arkansas Arts Center, the University of Arkansas Bowen School of Law, Mount Holly Cemetery and historic MacArthur Park.
Among the many amenities available in Riverdale is Rebsamen Golf Course, which affords players commanding views of the Arkansas River. Nearby is popular Murray Park, also at river's edge, the site of soccer fields, playgrounds and even a dog park. And a little farther down the road is The Big Dam Bridge, which spans the river and is billed as the longest pedestrian/bicycle bridge in North America that has never been used by cars or trucks. Riverdale is home to a diverse mix of restaurants, shops, and The Design District, where local interior designers have warehouses and shops.
