In 1994, after buying our first home in Maumelle, AR, I found peace. I grew up in the small Arkansas town of Mountain Home and after living in the hustle and bustle of Little Rock, I stumbled upon this quaint and very quiet suburb once called New Town. Although I didn’t know a soul there, this, indeed, became my “new town.”

After living in Maumelle a short while, it became apparent that making friends would be easy because people here are so accepting. Maumelle has that old-fashioned community feel with children walking to school, small town festivals, fish fries, civic and church functions welcoming all to attend, and so much more. In the early morning hours of April 9, 2016 I embarked on a medical mission trip to Guatemala. The St. Peter’s / St. Mark’s Episcopal Church based medical mission team consisted of 25 nurses, doctors, pharmacists and even a real estate agent! We hosted 7 medical clinics throughout remote mountain towns and villages of west central Guatemala. By the end of the week saw over 500 patients – a new record! Many of these patients are “return customers” who we see every year and are able to see the long term health benefit of regular medical care. Each patient receives a medical exam, eye exam, medications, vitamins, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and a new set of clothes and shoes. It is always a lot of fun to see children we recognize from years past wearing…
